Technology

Each of our technology rich classrooms is equipped with a ceiling mounted video projection unit, SMART Board, digital camera, printer and access to wireless Internet service.

SMART Board technology combines the simplicity of a whiteboard with the power of a computer. It has a touch-sensitive display that connects to a computer and digital projector to show the computer image. The computer application can be controlled directly from the display allowing our instructors to write notes in digital ink and save the work to share with their students later. The digital projector is also very useful for teaching lessons using Power Point thus creating a more engaging and interactive learning environment.

Laptops equipped with wireless Internet also play an integral part of learning within the classroom here at CA. All Grade 12 students have dedicated laptops and in Grades 3-11 there is a 2-1 laptop ratio.

Calgary Academy provides its students with access to programs such as Rosetta Stone (foreign language learning software), Adobe and Macromedia products, as well as STAR Reading and STAR MATH. Other software, such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, is also available for those students with special learning needs.
