Calgary Academy

The main focus of our Spanish program is to instill communicative competence in our students. The study of cultural norms in Hispanic countries enables the students to develop a greater understanding and acceptance of cultures different from our own, as well the opportunity to see just how useful speaking Spanish can be on a global scale.
In addition to traditional classroom teaching methods, technology plays an integral role in our Spanish program. We have a well-equipped language lab, complete with 16 stationary laptops and Rosetta Stone Spanish language-learning software. The software program exposes students to a wide variety of Spanish vocabulary via direct immersion. Unlike traditional language-learning software, Rosetta Stone does not translate any Spanish into English. As a result, the students learn to think in Spanish right from the beginning. There are also many different educational websites that are teacher-approved and allow students to review vocabulary and grammatical concepts learned in class through games, puzzles, etc.
