VIETNAM 2005/2006

Ms. Ballas, Mr. Topping, Mrs. MacDonald and sixteen Calgary Academy grade 12 students experienced the serenity of Vietnam over the spring break. They were overwhelmed with the sublime beauty of the country's natural setting: the Red River Delta in the north, the Mekong Delta in the south and in the countryside, the patchwork of brilliant green rice paddies tended by women in conical hats. Hot, humid weather and vivid colors greeted them on their first stop at Ho Chi Minh City. Students immersed themselves in the culture and warmth of the Vietnamese people by teaching English to children and adults. Our travellers also played games with the children, sang songs, and helped with some maintenance and repairs in a rural school. The memories of their trip will linger long after their return.

"I got closer with my companions, leaving behind previous assumptions, and acknowledging everyone as an individual".

"It opened my eyes to realize the many different cultures in our world. It was an amazing experience and opened my eyes to the world".

"The trip changed my life. I really enjoyed teaching English; it was amazing to see how the children were so excited to learn".

"It was a magical trip. This trip made everyone that went on it a better person".
